Romania, day 14, today day of the fortified churches in Transylvania where there are and were many Saxon Germans. Church castles can accommodate the inhabitants of whole villages in case of attacks on the villages.
Each family was given a small chamber. In one of the fortified churches there were over 200 such chambers. Also school, weaving mill etc. was in there, because the places were often besieged for a long time…very interesting to see, with some fortified churches we were allowed to climb on adventurous ways up to the tower.
Without any safety precautions, would be so impossible with us in Austria. It is just said: Caution, steep steps. 🙂 If you then stand under a bell that is supported by rotten wooden beams, you must not think. Another day with many new impressions. 🙂
