Castelul de Lut Valea Zanelor | The castle of clay | County Brasov
The Castelul de Lut Valea Zanelor (German: “Castle of Clay”) is located about 40 km from Sibiu and is probably one of the most famous tourist attractions in Romania. If you are on vacation here, you should definitely visit the castle, which is made entirely of clay, straw and wood. The castle is a work of an artist couple, who started the construction in 2014. In addition to the main building, there are several outbuildings that are currently under construction. Likewise, in the “courtyard” of the castle there are some possibilities to sit and eat. There is also a small stream flowing next to the castle, which you can enter if you are careful.
Meanwhile, the castle has become a major tourist attraction. Hundreds of people visit the breathtaking structure every day. A small entrance fee is also payable, to finance the project. Likewise, a small adventure park designed mainly for children, Povestea Calendarului, was built next door, as well as several guesthouses and restaurants.
A tour of the castle is made relatively quickly. The complex is moderately large and consists mainly of the main square (a lawn and dining facilities), part of the creek and the castle. Just under construction are two other buildings, but they are not yet accessible.
As for parking, there is of course a large parking lot where you can park with a small fee. If you don’t want to do that, you can park a bit in front of the castle and walk to it.
