In the middle of Romania’s picturesque scenery lies the enchanting county town of Alba Iulia, which not only has a population of more than 60,000 inhabitants, but is also a city of historical and cultural significance.
The Alba Carolina Fortress is undoubtedly one of the city’s most prominent landmarks. With its impressive construction, it not only attracts admiration from locals, but also from travelers from all over Europe. The fortress, built between 1714 and 1738 in the Vauban style, is known as the most representative bastion fortress of its kind in Romania and even in south-eastern Europe. Its impressive walls tell stories from different eras and make it a must-see for every visitor.
The city also has a rich historical past. In 1599, Mihai Viteazu entered Alba Iulia and sought a union between Moldavia, Transylvania and Wallachia. In 1918, the unification of Transylvania, Banat, the Kreish region and Maramuresh with Romania was declared here.
The Reunification Cathedral, which witnessed the coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria in 1922, is particularly worth seeing. This is where all of Romania’s historical provinces were united under one monarch.
The Alba Carolina Fortress is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a symbol of unity and cultural unity. Visitors can not only discover the history of Romania within its walls, but also admire the magnificent statue of the she-wolf, a gift from the Italian city of Alessandria as a symbol of the shared cultural heritage.
Alba Iulia is therefore not just a city, but a living history book that takes visitors back to a fascinating past and at the same time presents the beauty and uniqueness of Romania.😍🇷🇴💡
