27 November 2023Hidden, almost forgotten, not completely closed
29 November 2023An enchanting December in Brasov and Tâmpa
Drink a delicious mulled wine right next to the illuminated tree on the fabulously decorated Town Hall Square and admire the Black Church and the overdimensional lettering BRASOV on Tampa Mountain: what could be better when winter arrives?
As every year, tourists and locals gather in Brasov in December around the Christmas tree on the Town Hall Square and at the Christmas market with stories, mulled wine, gingerbread, local products and handicrafts as well as music. All this takes place in one of the most beautiful cityscapes in Romania or, as the Brasovians proudly say, even in the world. Those who have not forgotten that Brasov is a city of mountains and winter sports will once again find the ice rink on St. John’s Square and, with a bit of luck, snow in Poiana Brasov and Postăvaru, Brasov’s local mountain.
But more than “every year”, the city treats its visitors to a packed program of cultural events in December. From November 30, when the city switches on the Christmas tree lights – an event that usually attracts tens of thousands of people – concerts are held every weekend on the two stages in the town hall square – from Christmas carols and folk music to jazz and blues – as well as theater performances or craft workshops for young and old. Historical figures representative of the city will also be part of the story, encouraging the public to discover the cultural surprises of December and enjoy the atmosphere, art, traditions and experiences. And New Year’s Eve will be celebrated on the Town Hall Square – where else – with a concert event, lights, lasers, video mapping and fireworks.
