12 October 2023Black Sea / Lacul Golovita in Jurolivca and the ruins of Argamum
About 1,5 hours away from Constanta there is a small town “Jurilovca”. It is located on the lake “Lacul Golovita”, which is separated from the Black Sea only by a narrow strip of land. Local boatmen offer crossings to this very strip of land, to be more precise to the nearby fishing village of Gura Portitei. For just under 15 € (75 RON) you can join a round trip.
In Jurilovca itself, however, there is also a lot to experience. At the harbor, which is located right next to a church, the Biserica Acoperamantul Maicii Domnulio, you can take a relaxing walk along the harbor. There are also numerous restaurants that offer freshly caught fish and many other dishes.
We visited the restaurant “pescaresc”, which was located directly on the harbor. The beautiful little restaurant is decorated in turquoise and white and has a terrace from which you can view the harbor and the lake. For dinner we had sea bream, sea bass and spaghetti with seafood. The freshly caught and fried fish naturally attracted other creatures, especially hairy ones. Even before our fish was brought, we were already being checked by a cat for possible morsels. Of course we also gave her one or the other piece of fish.
About 5 minutes away by car on a cliff is the nature reserve “Capul Dolosman”, where also the ruins of the ancient city “Argamum” is located. Almost like the Welsh coast, the wind blows very strong here on some days. The view over the lake reaches to the strip of land and becomes more intense especially because of the protruding cliffs. It almost feels like you’re in Britain in 54 BC, waiting to catch sight of Caesar’s ships in the distance.
For a day trip, the place and its surrounding area is definitely perfect. For us, it was a nice change of pace and the fresh sea air and winds made one feel well and soothed. This place is definitely worth a visit or two.
