Urzeln tradition in the Harbach Valley | Agnetheln | Transylvania

An enchanting sight in the Harbach Valley, Agnetheln! This year, over 280 enthusiastic Urzeln took part in the traditional event.

From historic guilds to vibrant masks, the community celebrated the rich history and heritage of the Urzeln with a spectacular parade and joyous festivities. The Urzeln won the hearts of the spectators with their shaggy clothing, whips and doughnuts.

The parade showcased the once mighty craft guilds of Agnetheln – the shoemakers’, tailors’, furriers’ and coopers’ guilds. Their far-reaching influence and traditions are kept alive through events such as the Guild Day and the Urzelnlauf. The traditional Urzelnlauf of the Transylvanian Saxons takes place annually on the last Sunday in January and is organised by an international community.
